How to Uninstall Avast Antivirus on Windows

Uninstalling Avast Antivirus on Windows is easy and straightforward. Follow this guide to learn how to do it quickly and safely.

How to Uninstall Avast Antivirus on Windows

The Avast antivirus is one of the most popular antivirus software programs for Windows. It provides an excellent level of protection from viruses, malware, and other malicious threats. However, if you are no longer using Avast or need to reinstall it, then you will need to uninstall it from your system. Uninstalling Avast antivirus from a Windows computer is a straightforward process and can be done in just a few steps.

Step 1: Check for the Avast Icon in the System Tray

The first step to uninstalling Avast antivirus is to check for the Avast icon in the system tray. The system tray is located in the lower right corner of the screen. If you see the Avast icon there, then it is running on your computer.

Step 2: Open the Avast User Interface

Once you have located the Avast icon in the system tray, right-click on it and select “Open Avast user interface” from the context menu. This will open the Avast user interface.

Step 3: Select Uninstall

Now that you have opened the Avast user interface, you will need to select the “Uninstall” option from the sidebar. This will open the uninstall wizard.

Step 4: Confirm Uninstallation

The uninstall wizard will now prompt you to confirm the uninstallation. Read the information on the page and make sure that you understand what is going to happen. When you are ready, click on the “Uninstall” button to start the uninstallation process.

Step 5: Restart Your Computer

Once the uninstallation process is complete, you will need to restart your computer. This is necessary to ensure that all of the Avast files have been removed from your system.

Step 6: Check for Remaining Files

After restarting your computer, you should check for any remaining Avast files. To do this, open File Explorer and navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86) folder. If you see any files or folders with the word “Avast” in the name, then delete them.

Step 7: Clean Registry Entries

The final step is to clean up any remaining registry entries. To do this, open the Registry Editor by pressing Windows + R and typing “regedit”. Once the Registry Editor is open, press Ctrl + F to open the search box. Type “Avast” in the search box and press enter. This will search the registry for any entries containing the word “Avast”. If any entries are found, delete them.

Once you have completed these steps, Avast will have been fully uninstalled from your computer. If you ever need to reinstall Avast, you can do so by downloading the latest version from the Avast website.
