How to Change the Color of a Folder on a Mac

Folders are essential for organizing files on a Mac computer. They can be used to group related documents and keep your computer tidy. The default appearance of folders on a Mac is a plain gray color. But you can customize your folders to stand out by changing their color.

Step 1: Choose a Folder

The first step is to select the folder you want to customize. To do this, open a Finder window. Then navigate to the folder you want to customize. You can also select multiple folders at once to change their colors in one go.

Step 2: Right Click

Once you have selected the folder (or folders) you want to customize, right click on it. This will open a menu with several options. Click on “Get Info”. This will open a window with information about the folder.

Step 3: Select the Color

In the “Get Info” window, there is a section called “Label”. Under this section, there is a box with a colored square. Click on the square to open a menu of colors. Select the color you want to apply to your folder.

Step 4: Close the Window

Once you have selected the color you want, close the “Get Info” window. Your folder will now have the new color. You can repeat this process for any other folders you want to customize.

Step 5: Customize Subfolders

If you want to apply the same color to all subfolders inside a folder, you can also do this. To do this, select the folder and open the “Get Info” window as before. Then check the box next to “Apply to enclosed items”. This will apply the color you chose to all subfolders in the folder.

Step 6: Reset the Color

If you want to reset the color of your folder or subfolders, you can do this too. To do this, select the folder and open the “Get Info” window. Then uncheck the box next to “Apply to enclosed items”. This will reset the color of the folder and all subfolders to the default gray.

Changing the color of folders on a Mac is a great way to make your computer look more organized and personal. With just a few clicks, you can customize your folders to stand out from the rest. You can also apply the same color to multiple folders and subfolders at once.
